The Ozark Tigers opened the Kickapoo Shootout with a big, come-from-behind, overtime victory over the Pattonville Pirates Friday night, winning 2-1. The game was played on a muddy, rain-soaked field with tempatures in the low 40’s at game time. The Tigers earned their tenth victory of the season, but will now also get to host a portion of the tournament on their synthetic turf at Tiger Stadium, due to the field conditions at Kickapoo. The Tigers will next play Lee’s Summit West at 10 a.m. Saturday morning.
Although the Tigers controlled the majority of the possessions, and had the majority of the scoring chances in the first half, the match remained scoreless until the 53rd minute when the Pirates scored first. It was the result of a corner kick that the Tigers were unable to clear, only to have the ball deflect to a Pattonville player who knocked the ball in, giving the visiting team from the St. Louis area a 1-0 lead,
The Tigers bounced back in the 70th minute when Skyler Foster, starting his second consecutive game, took a long pass from midfield, took one short dribble, then delivered a hard right-footed shot, depositing the ball in the back of the net, tying the match at one.
The game then moved to overtime and just eight minutes into the extra period, Zach Moore scored the winning goal, gathering his own rebounded shot off the Pattonville goalkeeper and putting it past the keeper this time, into the net, giving the Tigers the overtime victory.
