Ozark Defeats Harrisonville in first match of Sedalia Tournament

The Lady Tigers defeated Harrisonville by a score of 4-0 on Friday evening in their first game of the Sedalia Tournament.  Megan Gunnels opened the scoring for Ozark in the 5th minute of play when she took the ball away from Harrisonville’s sweeper and went 1v1 with the keeper (assist credited to Alicia Collard).  Megan skillfully placed the eventual game winner out of the keeper’s reach and just inside the right post.   Ozark put in a second goal in the 39th minute when freshman Mollie Killion finished a beautiful cross sent in by left midfielder Brittany Matthews to give Ozark a 2-0 halftime lead.

Brittany Matthews scored 10 minutes into the second half when she received a ball from Rachel Haden and beat her defender down the left side and placed her shot past the keeper into the far side of the net.  Four minutes later, Alicia Collard received the ball inside the 18 from Evie Curtis, as she made a run up the center of the field.  Alicia struck the ball solidly into the back of the net.

Ozark’s keeper, Paige Hemphill had several huge stops in the first half to preserve the shutout for the Lady Tigers who received the max points (3 for the win, 1 for the shutout, and 3 goal differential = 7) for the victory.
