Ozark Lady Tigers Run Away from Nixa

The Ozark Lady Tigers defeated the Nixa Lady Eagles on Thursday evening by a score of 4 – 2.  The first goal of the game came for Ozark in the 30th minute.  Ozark senior Erica Hogan hit a shot from 30 yards out that was knocked down by Nixa’s keeper, who was not able to gain control of the ball.  Junior Brittany Matthews was crashing in and was there to direct the ball into the goal as it rebounded off the keeper and gave Ozark a 1-0 lead going into halftime.

Three minutes into the second half, Hogan again hit a long shot from outside the 18, just right of center.  This shot sailed into the upper left corner of the goal extending Ozark’s lead to 2-0.  Seven minutes later, sophomore Megan Gunnels scored the eventual game winner striking a ball on the run as she crossed the 18 and placing it beautifully just inside the left post.

Nixa’s forward, Stephanie Allen, put Nixa on the scoreboard in the 67th minute as she was able to push the ball past Ozark’s charging keeper on a breakaway run and placed the ball into the goal.  Ozark sophomore Megan Jenisch, assisted by Gunnels, scored Ozark’s fourth and final goal of the game in the 71st minute on a well executed set piece hitting the shot outside the 18 on the right side.  Jenisch placed the ball over the keeper and into the far side of the goal.

Allen would score once more for Nixa in the final five minutes of play on a shot taken deep on the left side.  With the win, Ozark extends its winning streak to three and improves to 3-1 on the season.

Ozark’s JV team extended it’s winning record to 5 wins and no losses with a 4-0 victory over Nixa’s JV team.  All four Ozark goals came in the first half.  Freshman Danielle Poivre scored the first two goals for Ozark, the second was a well placed shot taken from the penalty spot.  Freshmen Mollie Killion and Kelsie Brown rounded out the scoring for the Lady Tigers.
